IMATS Koren from EnKore makeup and Kandee Johnson!

On the weekend I went to IMATS! I was filming for school but still managed to buy a travel brush set, makeup forever's brush cleanser, and NYX jumbo eye pencil in Cottage Cheese! I also got the chance to do a quick interview with Koren from EnKore Makeup, I love his YouTube videos, so it was a lot of fun talking to him about YouTube, Makeup, and advice for future makeup artists! We also met Kandee Johnson when we were on our way out, I'll attach a picture. Her mom joined us for the photo because we recognized her from some of Kandee's makeup tutorial videos, haha! I also talked to Tom Savini, he was the makeup artist from Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th, I wish I could do special effects makeup! Heres a photo and my video coverage from the event:

Beauty: Lip & Cheek Stains

The perfect beauty product for fall is a lip stain, usually in the form of a marker, lip stains give you a matte finish with adding natural flush to your lips. Some brands also come in mini bottles that can be used universally for both your lips and cheeks, such as Benefit Cosmetics Benetint, you can even add a little gloss for some extra shine and moisture. Here are a few products that will be a great addition to your makeup bag throughout the fall months leading into winter:

Benetint, $28, sephora.com

Stila Lip & Cheek stain, $24, sephora.com

and some drugstore options..

Revlon's 'Just Bitten', approx. $9 where Revlon products are sold.

Cover Girl's Outlast, approx $8 where Cover Girl products are sold.

no more eating beets for the perfect lip stain!

This whole show was to die for.

And my favourite from the show...

Canadian born, but New York based bridal and gown designer Romona Kaveza, presented a collection that made every girl in the audience plan their future weddings while the models walked graciously down the runway in flowing couture gowns.

Keveza told the Toronto Sun "my spring 2011 collection features a return to my early days of designing evening wear and is inspired by an aristocratic soiree of the sixties and is an ode to Audrey Hepburn and New York high society."

The ode to Audrey Hepburn was first present when the show started off with clips of Breakfast at Tiffanys, which started off the mood for the collection. Immediately after, black lace gowns and long flowing chiffon birdal gowns came down the runway with models sporting Holly Golightly inspired updos.

Being a big Breakfast at Tiffanys fan and loving the theme of romantic and sophisticated gowns, this show was definitely my favourite.

And...although I love the dresses in the spring 2011 runway show, I can definitely picture my self wearing this lovely black dress if I ever say 'I DO'.

Thomas Clothing Review- Spring 2011 Toronto LG Fashion Week

I'm so behind with reviews from fashion week, but I'm going to get to as many as I can within the next few days, probably closing with my favourite, Romona Keveza, her collection was unbelievable! Lets begin with Thomas Clothing.

Recent OCAD grads Drew and Michael Thomas are the masterminds after a well thought out show concept with clothing appealing to the androgynous dressers. The show played eerie sound effects as the models walked down the runway appearing like they just came out of an old zombie film.

Despite the bizzare (but different then all the rest) presentation, the clothes are extremely wearable. Slim pants which were slit at the knee and showed a little skin, oversized sheer button ups both as dresses and shirts, and oversized zipped jackets. The colour scheme was entirely black and white, making all of the pieces versatile and classic, a signature for the up and coming designers.

The designers gave the torontosun.com some insight on where they see the collection headed “We spent our summer completing this collection and collaborating with many talented photographers, videographers, artists and stylists but after showing in Toronto and New York, we plan to move THOMAS// to Berlin, in 2011, hopefully to stay for a while. It’s difficult to feel unsettled as a creative, and being somewhere as dynamic as Berlin, will no doubt enhance our creativity,” says Thomas.

The makeup for the show was very natural with blackened eyebrows and slicked back hair.

Lack of Plus Size models at LG Fashion Week

When watching the shows at the recent LG Fashion Week I noticed that unlike last season with the widely popular plus size model Crystal Renn walking in the Joe Fresh show, there was a huge lack of curvier figues on the runway. I knew that right after Fashion Week I had to write about it.

Another season of Toronto’s LG Fashion Week wrapped up on Friday, and throughout the week of the spring 2011 fashion shows there was one thing missing: plus size models.

Just as the fashion industry is promising a shift towards a more real representation of models with Vogue magazine publishing a shape issue entirely featuring plus size models, the recent Toronto Fashion week showed a huge lack of a representation of curvy women by using no plus size models.

Jill Fraleigh from the Southlake Hospital eating disorder clinic in Newmarket told thedailyplanet.com that including more plus size women in runway shows could positively influence the self-esteem of young women.

“Showing different shapes, sizes and colours in the diversity of the models will make them feel more accepted, and its just a lot more real,” she said.

It’s ultimately up to the designer on which models they book and what the sample size of their collection is.

Last season, Toronto Fashion week created a buzz when U.S. plus size model, Crystal Renn, closed the Joe Fresh label’s show. The mass-market brand’s creative director Joe Mimran said when announcing last season’s runway lineup, “The Joe Fresh Style customer base is diverse and we wanted the runway show to reflect this. We create clothing for everyone, and know how important it is to show our styles on women of different ages and body types.”

Expectations for the Joe Fresh brand to feature more real women on the runway was disappointed. It wasn’t only Joe Fresh who did not include any plus size models it was also 27 other designers who chose thin models to represent their clothing.

Searching for Toronto based agencies that represent plus sized models is a challenge. When contacted by thedailyplanet.com, the top agencies including Sutherland Models, Elite Model Management and Next Models said they not represent curvier figures.

Next models told thedailyplanet.com that plus size models are considered to be a woman’s dress size of 8-10, but they do not represent any.

Carolyn Nikkanen from Carolyn’s Model and Talent agency said they currently represent three plus size models. “The reason plus size models have such a hard time getting runway work is that designers stick to making sample sizes which is the generic sizing for models.”

Most designer’s sample size is the standard size 2.

“Our models mainly book lifestyle and commercial jobs, were really hoping there will be a designer who will design specifically for plus size women and will give the models an opportunity to do runway and show a more positive body image.”

Former Americas Next Top Model winner and plus size model Whitney Thompson spoke out about Vogue’s shape issue by telling Glamour Magazine, “I applaud Vogue for having a shape issue, but screw Vogue for not having shapes in every issue. It's infuriating because we have to be excited, that there's one issue that has girls who eat.”

Toronto Street Style

Heres some street style I shot downtown Toronto both inside and outside of the Eaton Centre. This was my first time shooting street style and as I was taking photos of these stylish people I thought about how much fun it would be as a full time job.

LG Fashion Week Preperations

Yes, fashion week wrapped on Friday and this may be old news but after spending a week among fashion bloggers and checking out some of the amazing content on their sites, I realized this blog needs a lot of improvement! I'll be making more time to post and hopefully I'll actually get a following.

Heres a video I did for thedailyplanet.com before the shows kicked off, enjoy!

Aggy Dean - The Closest Thing We Have To a Supermodel.

Gracing the runways of Alexander Wang, Oscar De La Renta, and Anna Sui's fall ready-to-wear show, she's the closest thing we have to a supermodel. Deyn walked in Naomi Campbell's benefit fashion show "Fashion For Relief Haiti" and fell twice because of the insane 9 inch heels- but no one cares. At age 24 (although theres controversary due to that) she's still one of the most requested models for big name designers.

Spring is in the air.

My new love. Menswear oxfords. Their perfect for spring and they look especially cute with lose fitted dresses and high waisted skirts! Although, they look great with anything, with or without socks. Example:

T Swift wears them too!
